Lets Do Better In Semester 2 xD

Awal Muharam is coming soon, the same date as the day of registration for semester-2. 1st Muharam is also known as maal hijrah, right? Did you know what I think? I expect, your step for this time to cfs would be just like a hijrah to a better life compared to your life in previous semester; you should study better, you must leave behind all your mistakes that you ever did. Be a new person and be someone better. I remember a quote; it sounds "The person that you have to be better than is the person you're yesterday." It's short but meaningful, isn't?

Now, I would like to share some sunnat practices during Muharam...

1. Fasting during the month
The Holy Prophet e has said:
أفضل الصيام بعد شهر رمضان شهر الله المحرم
The best fasts after the fasts of Ramadan are those of the month of Muharram.
Although the fasts of the month of Muharram are not obligatory, yet, the one who fasts in these days out of his own will and choice is entitled to a great reward by Allah Almighty. The Hadith cited above signifies that the fasts of the month of Muharram are most rewardable ones among the Nafl fasts i.e. the fasts one observes out of his own choice without being obligatory on him.
The hadith does not mean that the award promised for fasts of Muharram can be achieved only by fasting for the whole month. On the contrary, each fast during this month has merit. Therefore, one should avail of this opportunity as much as he can.

2. The day of 'Ashurah'
Although the month of Muharram is a sanctified month as a whole, yet, the 10th day of Muharram is the most sacred among all its days. The day is Named Ashurah'.
According to the Holy companion Ibn 'Abbas t. The Holy Prophet e , when migrated to Madinah, found that the Jews of Madinah used to fast on the 10th day of Muharram. They said that it was the day on which the Holy Prophet Musa (Moses) u and his followers crossed the Red Sea miraculously and the Pharaoh was drowned in its water. On hearing this from the Jews, the Holy Prophet e said, "We are more closely related to Musa than you" and directed the Muslims to fast on the day of 'Ashura'. (Abu Dawood)
It is also reported in a number of authentic traditions that in the beginning, fasting on the day of 'Ahura' was obligatory for the Muslims. It was later that the fasts of Ramadan were made obligatory and the fast on the day of 'Ashura' was made optional. Sayyidah 'A'ishah  رضي الله عنها has said:
فلما قدم رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم المدينة صامه وأمر بصيامه. فلما فرض رمضان كان هو الفريضة وترك عاشوراء، من شاء صامه ومن شاء تركه ([1])
When the Holy Prophet e came to Madinah, he fasted on the day of 'Ashura' and directed the people to fast it. But when the fasts of Ramadan were made obligatory, the obligation of fasting was confined to Ramadan and the obligatory nature of the fast of 'Ashura' was abandoned, One can fast on this day, if he so wills, or can avoid fasting, if he so wills.
However, the Holy Prophet e used to fast on the day of 'Ashura' even after the fasting in Ramadan was made obligatory. Abdullah ibn Mas'ud t reports that the Holy Prophet e preferred the fast of 'Ashura' to the fast of other days and preferred the fast of Ramadan to the fast of 'Ashura'. (Bukhari and Muslim)
In short, it is established through a number of authentic ahadith that fasting on the day of 'Ashura' is Sunnah of the Holy Prophet e and makes one entitled to a great reward.
According to another hadith, it is more advisable that the fast of Ashura should either be prefixed or suffixed by another fast. It means that one should fast two days: the 9th and 10th of Muharram or the 10th and llth of it. The reason of this additional fast as mentioned by the Holy Prophet e is that the Jews used to fast on the day of 'Ashura alone, and the Holy Prophet e wanted to distinguish the Islamic-way of fasting from that of Jews. Therefore, he advised the Muslims to add another fast to that of Ashura'.
Some traditions signify another feature of the day of 'Ashura, According to these traditions one should be more generous to his family by providing more food to them on this day as compared to other days. These traditions are not very authentic according to the science of hadith. Yet, some Scholars like Baihaqi and Ibn Hibban have accepted them as reliable.

new year 2013

In 2012 ...

How many sins have we done?

How many prayers we left?

How many times we went to the mosque?

How little we thanked Allah?

How we have helped the needy?

[And if we live ...]

In 2013 ...

How many good deeds we will do?

How many prayers would we do?

How many times we will go to the mosque?

How much we will thank Allah?

How much we will help the needy?

[repent NOW to ALLAH !]

hope that this year will be better than before!!!

MRC's BOARD 2012/2013

*EID UL MUBARAK

HAPPY EID UL FITR

Ramadan ended with the siting of the rising of the moon. The Islamic faith is marked by the period of sacrifice and the joy thereafter! It epitomizes what all significant religions demand. The sacrifice is real. For those not of Islamic faith they have all shared the pain and joy of sacrifice with Muslim friends. We share their joy when they break their fast as well as throughout the day as they exercise religious discipline.
The exercise of Ramadan and the celebration of Eid can be seen both as an
individual as well as societal exercise. In preparing oneself individually
we help the collective and it is only the collective, which can effect
positive or negative change.

Eid after all is the combination of 3 meaningful words:
E: Embrace with open heart
I: Inspire with impressive attitude,
D: Distribute pleasure to all.

On the holy occasion OF EID
Here is wishing that
May the blessing of Allah
Light up your way
And lead u to eternal

Happiness,
Success
and
Peace.
Wish you a very happy Eid..

2012! :))

New semester. New classmates. New subjects. New lecturers and perhaps.. a new life.

Assalamualaikum! Hello hello. :) Yup, it's the new semester peeps. Perhaps everyone can already feel the stressfulness of this new semester.

The start of all the assignments, reading and counting. The start of countless hours of classes and group discussions. Tutorials and quizzes. You name it. Pfffttt. Same old. Same old.

I bet some of us have already felt like losing their soul due to the countless hours spent on the job of 'studying'. Well, I guess some of us just need the 'extra boost' to keep moving forward. To keep themselves strong against the 'hurricane'.

Supportive friends can be very helpful you know. :) If you think that your mind is strained and can no longer absorb the facts, if you think that your mind can no longer digest the numbers and confusing formulae, I suggest it will be best to turn to your friends. Do some group discussion. Find some peaceful spots for studying.

If that is not yet enough, well, why not give your family a call? Your mom, dad, brothers or sisters. Perhaps just listening to their voices might give you a peace in mind. Tell them stories of you life. Make them know what you are dealing with. Who would us better if it's not them, right?

And of course, the most important thing to do, say prayers to Allah. To our Creator. He is the one who knows us best. Tell HIM your problems. Never ask Him to make your life easier, but ask Him to make your heart TOUGHER. Your emaan STRONGER. Ask HIM to guide you to the right path of his blessings. Knowing the fact that He is the only one that could help and guide you every second of your life is very vital. It somehow completes our fitra as humans. Our fitra of needing to be close to Allah. :')

Lastly, we here at Mahallah Zainab Al-Jahsy will always pray for your success in life and in the hereafter. Every step of Jihaad will be rewarded Insyaallah.

May Allah guide you in every step of your way. :)

10 Ways To Slow Your Life Down.

1. TAKE PHOTOS
Go somewhere, anywhere. Go with a friend. Go alone. It doesn’t matter cuz the most important things you need is a camera and your pair of legs. Like what you see? Then snap it. One day, however many years from now, you can look at it and remember the story behind it cuz you didn’t miss that moment.

2. READ A BOOK

No, we’re not asking you to turn into a bookworm but stories have the power to bring you into a different world with you just sitting in your bed with an “Eat Pray Love”. It’s also a great way to let your imagination run wild – something you usually don’t have time for.

3. PLAN A ROAD TRIP

Roadtrips are fun, especially when you’re with friends but you guys are not going to go anywhere if you don’t properly plan it and DO it! Get yourselves away from the bustle of the city and into your adventurous spirits to discover a different world than the one you’re in everyday.

4. MOVIE MARATHON

The Potter series has just ended. It’s an awesome time to gather your Potter fan friends at one of your houses and watch all seven and a half Potter films. Be sure to stock up your popcorn and drinks cuz it’s gonna be a long day in front of the telly.

5. DISCONNECT YOURSELF

Phone calls, texts, IM chats, FB posts and messages – your life is just never on pause with all these distractions keep coming in. There’s never going to be a time where you can take a breather or relax with the constant flow of FB notifications you’re getting. At least, try going without Facebook for one whole week and see how it feels like.

6. BE ALONE

While hanging out with friends is fun, you still need your ‘me’ time once in a while. Keep one day reserved just for yourself and do whatever you like. A day where you don’t have to be chewed on by deadlines, trying to please others and getting your brain fried with information overload. Follow the commandments of Bruno Mars’ “The Lazy Song” – at least most of it.

7. SING IN THE SHOWER

If you’re usually taking a quick splash in the bathroom while running through a long list of mental to-dos, you probably forgot to karaoke Rebecca Black’s “Friday” as you rinsed the shampoo off. Take a long, rejuvenating shower (but not too long, or you’ll turn into a prune) and sing those annoying tunes outta your head.

8. GO FOR A WALK

More often than not, we’re always stuck inside– be it for school, work or at home – and technically that’s not very healthy. Try going for a stroll in the late evenings, alone or with a friend/family, when it’s not so hot, and observe the nature around you. You might even get into a good conversation with the person you’re with or get new creative ideas while you’re at it.

9. EAT SLOWER

Seriously, don’t rush through your food. Be like the French and savour the taste of your nasi lemak. You’re not in an eating competition so enjoy your meal while you can. Besides, eating slower actually makes you feel full while consuming less so you won’t end up overeating!

10. DO NOTHING

Yup. Just sit there or lie down and do absolutely nothing. Stare at the ceiling or blank out to the sound of silence. Take in deep breaths and try clearing your mind – imagine Yoda meditating with the Force till he can float! Meditation helps ease your mind and slow it down from all the panic and rush attacks it’s been getting.

Stop blaming the walls

It all started more or less a month ago. Each Hisbah trying to allocate time for a get-to-know session, but of course, that's the main problem: stealing someone's precious time when they have other commitments is a risky action. (I heard a Hisbah even went to an extent that they did not allow their members to take their outing card because they don't want them to go home since their event is held on a weekend)

Hisbah Taaruf night (or should I refer to their names? Bonjour night? Wonder Night? Cak-cak something..I can't even remember) is an important period of time, if you try to think about it. You live in a Mahallah with an approximately 1500 population, but you don't know each and one of them- of course, that's something extreme to ask for, but at least know your Hisbah members, your closest neighbors , the people you bump in to when you're rushing to the toilet, or the people who picks up your soap when it slips down your hand(that is, if you're using bar soap, and the floor's slippery enough for it to slide out of your cubicle) but the main point is, all of you are devided by walls, and it's time to stop blaming it.

Each Hisbah Lines-up prepared special games, astonishing presentations, and unique activities on this night, and no matter what their creative minds worked on, I'm pretty sure that it achieved their purpose.

Taking my Hisbah Taaruf night as an example (Guardians of Angels & Wonder Night), we had a very interesting aerobic session, conducted by our Sports & Recreation Bureau, and we had a really good time. Even our fellow, Mdm Syifa joined in the fun during the chicken dance (you guys should've been there) and I find it very fascinating that we're not only bonding between Juniors and Seniors, one course with another, but also between Hisbah members and their fellow.

Tight schedule, abundant tutorials/homeworks/quizzes and the upcoming exams, it's energy-drenching don't you agree? At the end of the day, being greeted with a friendly smile from a familiar face kind of shifts a bad day into a not-so-bad essence of life. It's amazing how familiarity soothes you in a way you can't exactly comprehend.

For those who has gone through a situation I just described, then you'll nod in agreement with the joy of bonding silaturrahim, but for those who don't, you can't possibly understand.

My advice, start knowing your neighbours, and stop blaming the walls.
