Ramadhanu Kareem.

Blessings of the month of Ramadhanul Mubarak

Fasting is the fourth pillar of Islam. The word "Sawm " (meaning to stop or abstain) is used in Arabic for fasting. A fast then means that one refrains from eating, drinking and other physical things (all those things that are otherwise allowed) from dawn to sunset. This month comes every year to spread the blessings and mercy of Allah. We are thankful to Allah for providing physical forms of divine worship such as prayer, fasting, and pilgrimage to improve our moral and spiritual condition.

Welcoming the Month of Ramadhan: The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) has said: "The month of Ramadhan comes to you. This is a blessed month" (Kitab-ul-Saum). The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) has declared this month as the "month of Allah" because one abandons all otherwise "lawful" things in the way of Allah. He has also declared this month as the "Chief of the months." Worship during this month gains more blessings so one should fast with sincere intentions and worship should be performed to win Allah's pleasure.

Ramadhan - Anniversary of the Holy Quran: Ramadhan is that blessed month in which the Holy Quran was first revealed to the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). In this regard this month celebrates the birthday of the Holy Quran. To render our dues we should recite the Holy Quran as much as possible. During this month, at night, the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) use to recite the Holy Quran in its entirety with the Angel Gabriel (Jibraeel).

Opening the doors to heaven: Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) has narrated that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "When the month of Ramadhan starts, the doors of heaven are opened, the doors of the hell are closed, and Satan is put into chains" (Sahih Muslim Kitab-ulSaum). In this saying the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) has promised a high place in heaven for one who observess the fast because a believer is enjoined to perform such deeds that please Allah and stay away from bad things.

Ramadhan's Special relationship with Tahajjud Prayers: Hazrat Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated that the Holy Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "A person who gets up at night for Prayer and fulfills all requirements of his faith with an intention of receiving blessing during the Month of Ramadhan, is forgiven all his past sins."

Charity during Ramadhan: Ibn Abbas relates that the Holy Prophet, peace be upon him, was the most generous of men and he was at his most bountiful during Ramadhan when Gabriel visited him every night and recited the Quran to him. During this period the bounty of the Holy Prophet, peace be upon him, waxed faster than the rain-bearing breeze (Bokhari and Muslim).

Prayers: Allah forgives all previous sins of a person who sincerely worships Allah during the month of Ramadhan. During this month Allah's mercy and blessings are at their peak. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) has said that during Ramadhan: "Allah says: 'Is there anyone who calls on me so that I can accept his prayers? Is there anyone who asks for anything so that I can fulfill his desires? Is there anyone who asks for forgiveness so that I can forgive" (Sahih Bukhafi - Kitab-ul-Tauheed).

Last Ten days of Ramadhan: Hazrat Ayesha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that, during the month of Ramadhan, the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to develop a new vigor, staying awake alI night and also waking members of his family for worship" (Sahih Bukhail, Kitab-ul-Saum). During the month of Ramadhan worship reaches its peak in the form of I'tikaaf (retirement for Allah's worship). The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to retire to the Mosque in the last ten days of the Ramadhan. He would go to a corner in the Masjid-e-Nabwee (Prophet's Mosque) to worship Allah in seclusion.

Ramadhan and Lailatul Qadr (Night of Decree): Hazrat Ayesha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "O Allah's Prophet, if I know which night is the Lailatul Qadr then what should I pray? He replied: 'you should pray: 'O Allah, you are very forgiving and love those who forgive others. So bestow your blessings on me and forgive me"' (Jamiah Tirmidhi, Kitab-Al-Dawat). Lailatul Qadr is such a night that the Holy Quran has declared it to be better than a thousand months. May Allah enable us to be the recipients of Lailatul Qadr that we truly benefit from the coming month of Ramadhan. May Allah accept our prayers. Ameen.

Albert Einstein - Mentally Retarded?

assalamualaikum, hello peeps!

Yes. Yes. It's examination week. At last guys, the 'moment' we've all been waiting for. Up till today, there are students who have finished their exam and they are celebrating the end of the 'war' even for a short while. Others? Still struggling their best and burn all the midnight oil that they can find.

For first year students, this might be our first examination after SPM. It's been awhile, isn't it? The pressure, tonnes of reading and counting to be done is pretty much the same. All the facts to be stuffed inside our heads. It might be too much too handle. The last minute nervous breakdown. Somehow seems familiar.

There were students who complaint about how complex the questions were. Some of them did actually said that most of the answers have to be figured out themselves. The questions have been twisted in a way so tricky you might twist your head. Oh you know... the questions that required analytical and critical thinking. Yeah. Yeah. This is no more high school you know. No more just memorising and pasting the facts on the answer sheet.
It's time to polish your think tank.

specially for this exam week, we dedicated this story to you. <3
Einstein- Mentally Retarded?

When Albert Einstein was interviewed on the source of his creative genius, he replied, " It's because I'm mentally retarded". Then, he explained that he actually had the mind of a child but the brain of a scientist. Like a child, he often asked probing questions which adult regarded as silly like: "What happen if I ride on a light beam?". Incidently, it was this question that led to his discovery of his famous"Theory of Relativity".

Therefore ladies, do not be afraid of having a mind of a child because that's the door of unlimited creativity!

Stop blaming the walls

It all started more or less a month ago. Each Hisbah trying to allocate time for a get-to-know session, but of course, that's the main problem: stealing someone's precious time when they have other commitments is a risky action. (I heard a Hisbah even went to an extent that they did not allow their members to take their outing card because they don't want them to go home since their event is held on a weekend)

Hisbah Taaruf night (or should I refer to their names? Bonjour night? Wonder Night? Cak-cak something..I can't even remember) is an important period of time, if you try to think about it. You live in a Mahallah with an approximately 1500 population, but you don't know each and one of them- of course, that's something extreme to ask for, but at least know your Hisbah members, your closest neighbors , the people you bump in to when you're rushing to the toilet, or the people who picks up your soap when it slips down your hand(that is, if you're using bar soap, and the floor's slippery enough for it to slide out of your cubicle) but the main point is, all of you are devided by walls, and it's time to stop blaming it.

Each Hisbah Lines-up prepared special games, astonishing presentations, and unique activities on this night, and no matter what their creative minds worked on, I'm pretty sure that it achieved their purpose.

Taking my Hisbah Taaruf night as an example (Guardians of Angels & Wonder Night), we had a very interesting aerobic session, conducted by our Sports & Recreation Bureau, and we had a really good time. Even our fellow, Mdm Syifa joined in the fun during the chicken dance (you guys should've been there) and I find it very fascinating that we're not only bonding between Juniors and Seniors, one course with another, but also between Hisbah members and their fellow.

Tight schedule, abundant tutorials/homeworks/quizzes and the upcoming exams, it's energy-drenching don't you agree? At the end of the day, being greeted with a friendly smile from a familiar face kind of shifts a bad day into a not-so-bad essence of life. It's amazing how familiarity soothes you in a way you can't exactly comprehend.

For those who has gone through a situation I just described, then you'll nod in agreement with the joy of bonding silaturrahim, but for those who don't, you can't possibly understand.

My advice, start knowing your neighbours, and stop blaming the walls.

In-house Training status: completed

Alhamdulillah, in-house training went very smoothly, and wrapped up last night with abundant memories, work done and a....Barney song?

Curious? Let's start from the beginning.

All the MRC's and Hisbah line-ups assembled at Musolla Ground Floor 7PM sharp. At that moment everyone was still unfamiliar with each other, so there were quite a number of people sitting alone, quiet. The ones talking are people who already know each other, so there's still that sense of awkwardness in the air, but hey, the training barely started, wait till the end of it, then you'll see the huge difference from Day 1.

After Maghrib conjugational prayers, Madame gave a tazkirah, entitled 'Courtesy in Communicating'. She pressed on the importance of good communication skills in a leader, how a leader should act and how a good leader reacts to problems. It was overall inspiring and informative. One of the most significant things she said that night, and I quote,

"The higher your position is, the more humble you should be"

After Isya', we all were randomly distributed to 10 random groups. We were given a piece of A4 paper which was written on it, 2 random topics. The game was to tear the paper into one long strip- and talk anything random pertaining the two random topics given. Sounds random doesn't it? Well because of the randomness, it was definitely loads of fun (at least for me it was)

Then, we were divided into our respective bureaus, and were given a mahjong paper to create a logo for MZJ, and we had to present our logo next morning. Some stayed till midnight to finish it, some continued next morning, but however long it took for the bureaus to complete the logo, all the logos are well created, well designed and well presented. Kudos to everyone.

We were told that the best logo would be picked and used as the official logo of MZJ, but our principal, Mdm Asmieza announced that she and the other fellows has decided to not pick any logo, but combine all the logos instead. She justified her decision saying that everyone would contribute to the logo instead of only one bureau having the credit.

8A.M the next day, we all went to AX101 a.k.a Annex highland, the coldest land within IIUM grounds. After Mdm Asmieza's speech, and each Bureau's logo presentation, we had a workshop on preparing paper works or proposal before making a draft on all the programs for the almanac according to each Bureau.

We had lunch, Nasi Ayam (very delicious I must add), Zuhur and then, continued making the paper works. We dismissed in the evening, and assembled at the Musolla Ground Floor at 7PM. Tazkirah after Maghrib was given by our vice president, Sis Melati binti Tumiran entitled Tawaddhu', she explained the meaning of Tawaddhu', and shared a lot of stories pertaining the subject.

"Senang je nak tahu kita Tawaddhu' ke tak. Kalau kita rasa kita Tawaddhu', maknannya kita tak Tawaddhu' la tu."

Even though the tazkirah title was different from the previous night's title, both stayed on the same parallel line leading to the same road. I conclude, that we shouldn't be enslaved with power, we should always realize our that the post it an amanah, and never misuse or abandon it easy heartedly. Responsibility is heavy, and must be carefully done.

That night, there was a proposal presentation from all bureaus, we were enlightened by all the interesting activities that, insyaALLAH will be held throughout the year. If I tell the programs now, then it wouldn't be a surprise would it? Word of advice, prepare to be excited!

Before the closing speech by Mdm Asmieza, our President, Sis Amanina as well as our Head of Welfare and Residential Affair Bureau, Sis Syamim were a bit... cheerful last night. They asked if we want to sing a song together, and turned out the song was the one and only...Barney song!

"I love you, you love me, we are happy family......"

Barney song, the song we all know the lyrics by heart.

It ended with a barney song (and Tasbih Kafarah and Surah al-Asr), but the memories and knowledge gained by the training will always perpetuate in our heart, not to mention the friendship ties that existed because of this program would remain insyaAllah till the end our lives.

This is me, Naelah Nordin, reported an unforgettable two night one days program, Mahallah Zainab Jahsyi In-House Training 2011, signing off.
